Mistakes to Avoid When Planning a Proposal

Planning a proposal can be just as stressful as planning a wedding. The perfect proposal is the moment that you and your partner have been dreaming of, and that you will remember for the rest of your life. When it comes to proposing, planning is key. Here are some examples of mistakes that couples have made for you to learn from to make sure your proposal is as perfect as it can be.

GAME PLAN- Make sure that you invest as much time as you can into planning this proposal. Winging it is not the way to go. Take some time to consider where you want to be when you pop the question, how you want to ask, and what you want to say. Giving yourself some time to plan will help make sure that your proposal goes as smoothly as possible and that you have a fantastic story to share when you spread the news of your proposal.

OVER-OBSESS- Planning is important, but we all know the phrase too many cooks spoil the broth. It’s incredibly tempting to ask all of your friends and family members for suggestions and opinions, but by the end of it, you’ll have too many conflicting opinions and suggestions that it will be too much to sift through. The best thing to do is to ask no more than three people, so you can take on board what they have to say, and put it into your proposal.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE- One of the easiest mistakes is overcomplicating your plan. If you’re planning something exuberant, make sure you practice every element of the proposal so that it goes exactly to plan. The last thing you want is unexpected issues halfway through your proposal that give you more to worry about and deal with. Sometimes, simplicity is key.

TAILOR IT TO YOUR PARTNER- You know your partner better than anyone, and so you’ll know what sort of things they like and dislike. If they’re a romantic, use that and adapt your proposal. If your partner is an introvert and doesn’t like public attention, bear that in mind and keep things intimate. Making sure that your proposal is perfect for your partner is the most important part; whilst you could plan the most incredible proposal if it doesn’t suit your partner’s preference it won’t matter.

DON’T FORGET THE RING- It’s the most obvious and yet surprisingly common. Make sure you have the ring when you want to propose. With everything else going on, it’s easy to lose track of things so remind yourself about the ring. You also want to try and get your partner’s ring size if you can so the ring is a perfect fit. If you’re looking for the perfect ring, tiffany engagement rings have an incredible range of styles.

KEEP CALM- It’s incredibly exciting and nerve-wracking, and you’ll more than likely be nervous. Try your best to stay calm and not give it away; you want to keep the surprise.

The best advice is to follow your heart, and you’ll have the perfect proposal.
